Effect of tension/compression asymmetry and anisotropy on the response of pseudoelastic NiTi tubes under equibiaxial stress

The stress–strain response and inhomogeneous deformation of pseudoelastic NiTi tubes loaded under combined axial force internal pressure are governed not only by the well-known tension/compression asymmetry but also anisotropy (Bechle Kyriakides, 2016). This behavior was simulated successfully in Kazinakis et al. (2022) using a finite element analysis coupled to recently developed constitutive model that incorporates these key material characteristics. Interestingly, equibiaxial tension induces monotonic hystereses nearly homogeneous deformations, with hoop transformation strain being approximately double one. letter uses highlight how individually influence predictions this experiment. When both included, captures level transformations stresses extent strain, overpredicting small amount. hardening is somewhat reduced compared experiment allowing weak diffuse develop. In absence anisotropy, coincide much higher stresses, strains lie between experimental values, while tube deforms uniformly. If assumed symmetric properties uniaxial compression, same as previous case. calibrated instead partially unstable tensile response, predicts again coincident stress–average lower stress plateaus than measured strongly deformation. • Shape Memory Alloy stress.
